FAQs
Q: |
What is a co-op? |
A: |
A homeschool co-op, short for "homeschool cooperative," is a collaborative educational arrangement among homeschooling families. In a homeschool co-op, families come together to share resources, expertise, and responsibilities in educating their children. Co-ops typically involve a group of families who meet regularly to provide academic instruction, socialization opportunities, and extracurricular activities for their children. |
Q: |
Do I need to participate in a co-op if I homeschool? |
A: |
Absolutely not! Co-ops do not replace your at-home curriculum in any way. Rather, they add extracurricular experiences to your homeschooling life. While core skills like math and reading are strengthened regularly through co-op classes, these subjects will still need to be taught at home. |
Q: |
What ages are invited to Spark Academy? |
A: |
Spark Academy caters toward school age children up through early high school. Younger siblings (not yet kindergarten aged) may tag along and be included in a simplified cooperative program. |
Q: |
Can I drop my kids off? |
A: |
Spark Academy is not a drop-off co-op. Rather, Spark Academy is a cooperative community. Parents are expected to not only stay on the premises, but to contribute to the community. All parents have individual strengths that can be shared with other families |
Q: |
Do I have to teach a class? |
A: |
Parents as teachers is a cornerstone of our program. While we encourage parents to share their knowledge and interests with a group of kids, we understand that teaching is not for everyone. We partner our inexperienced teachers with ones that have participated in co-ops and taught for many years. Through this partnership, parents gain confidence as teachers in the hope that they can teach in a future semester. We encourage open dialogue about your concerns, thoughts, or fears around teaching, and we will work to find solutions that work for all! |
